Cascais & Sintra Wedding Photographer - Documentary, Candid & Coastal

Chas Studios photographs weddings along the Cascais coast and through the forested hills and palace estates of Sintra. Led by husband-and-wife Diego and Taylor, we’ve spent a lot of time working across both areas – from the open Atlantic light at Guincho Beach and the clifftops at Cabo da Roca to the overgrown romanticism of Sintra’s historic estates. The contrast between these two places is part of what makes this corner of Portugal unusual to photograph: raw, windswept coastline one moment, misty and layered the next.

We take a documentary approach throughout the day, staying close to the story as it unfolds rather than stopping it to arrange it. Along the coast, that means working with changing light, wind, and movement. In Sintra, it means slowing down and letting the atmosphere do some of the work. Both settings reward patience over control, which suits the way we shoot.

During portraits, we offer light direction – enough to help you feel relaxed and natural without forcing anything staged or stiff. Coastal and estate settings tend to take some of that pressure off anyway. When you’re standing at Cabo da Roca or in the gardens of a Sintra palace, there’s usually somewhere to look and something to feel. We use that.

The light along the Cascais coast changes quickly. Afternoons are bright and directional; evenings go warm and golden before fading fast. We plan portrait timing around these windows carefully, and use flash selectively for evening receptions indoors – particularly at Sintra estates, where low candlelit interiors need a different approach than the open coastline.

We also offer wedding videography for couples who want their day documented in motion. Our films follow the same observational approach as our photography, focused on real moments, atmosphere, and the feeling of the place. From intimate coastal ceremonies to multi-day estate weddings in Sintra, the final film reflects the day as it actually was.

Cascais & Sintra Locations We Know Well

Guincho Beach is about 8km from Cascais, inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, and one of the locations we return to most for portrait work. The wide Atlantic landscape, strong directional afternoon light, and constant coastal wind make it unlike any indoor venue or manicured garden. We’ve shot many engagement and family sessions here across different seasons and know how to work the dunes, the light, and the wind. Couples who want something raw, open, and genuinely coastal tend to end up here.

Cabo da Roca sits at the westernmost point of continental Europe – open clifftops, Atlantic views in every direction, and a quality of light that doesn’t exist anywhere further inland. We know the headland well from shooting engagement sessions here, and the clifftop geography creates images that feel cinematic without needing much else. The main variable is wind, which we plan around.

Arriba by the Sea is a coastal venue we’ll be photographing our first wedding at later this year. We’ve already walked the space and are familiar with the layout and light – if you’re considering Arriba, we’re happy to talk through what the day could look like.

Valverde Sintra – Palácio de Seteais is an 18th-century palace set in the hills of Sintra, and one of the most photogenic venues we’ve worked at in Portugal. We recently documented a wedding celebration here in collaboration with Sofia Nascimento Studios — the neoclassical architecture, the formal gardens, and the surrounding Sintra hillside all work together in a way that photographs beautifully with very little effort. Interior spaces are warm and elegant; the gardens in late afternoon light are something else entirely.

"We had an incredible experience with Chas Studios for our wedding photography. Taylor and Diego did an amazing job capturing the highlights and emotions of our special day. Before the event, they took the time to schedule a call to truly get to know us as a couple, understand our style and preferences, and create a thoughtful plan for the day. On the wedding day, they arrived early, greeted our guests with warm smiles, and made us feel incredibly special throughout the entire celebration. They were professional, personable, and made the whole experience feel effortless and fun. The extra drone footage they captured added such a unique and beautiful perspective to our wedding memories. If you’re looking for photographers who go above and beyond and deliver a true VIP experience, we highly recommend Chas Studios. We are so grateful to Taylor and Diego for capturing our day so perfectly."
